'Odette' now a typhoon; signal no. 1 up in 4 areas
MANILA – Storm warning signal number 1 has been raised over Isabela and Cagayan, including the Calayan
and Babuyan group of islands as “Odette” intensified into a typhoon.
Weather bureau PAGASA on Wednesday night said Odette had maximum winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gust winds of up to 150 kph.
PAGASA said the typhoon was last spotted 700 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City and moving towards Northern Luzon.
While the typhoon is still over water, it will continue to cause moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, and Mindoro because of its effect on the southwest monsoon (habagat).
It was also expected to bring heavy to intense rains within its 500 kilometer diameter.
PAGASA said sea travel over the seaboards of Occidental Mindoro and Palawan and over the eastern seaboard of Luzon and of Visayas remains risky.
