Zambo, Basilan evacuees to get sleeping, hygiene kits
MANILA – Internally-displaced residents of Zamboanga and Basilan will receive 10,000 packs of non-food items from the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).
The Red Cross said the non-food packs will include sleeping kits, hygiene kits and kitchen utensils.
"In coordination with the ICRC, we will start sending 9,000 packs of non-food items including hygiene kits and kitchen utensils to Zamboanga and 1,000 packs to Basilan. We are giving particular attention to Basilan because of the developing conflict as a result of the Zamboanga standoff,” PRC Secretary General Dr. Gwendolyn Pang said in a statement Thursday.
PRC said the goods will be shipped through a private commercial ship or through the Philippine Navy.
Authorities said 23,794 families or 118,819 individuals have been affected by the crisis in Zamboanga.
There are 21,261 families or 112,961 individuals staying in 67 evacuation centers.
The Department of Social Welfare Development is providing 70,000 ready-to-eat food packs to the affected families.
