Girl raped inside Zamboanga evacuation center
MANILA (UPDATED/CORRECTED) – A 5-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her uncle while inside an evacuation center in Zamboanga City.
Inspector Izel Maraviles, chief of the Women and Children's Section of the Zamboanga City Police Office, said the incident happened on Thursday night inside a makeshift tent at the Joaquin Enriquez Sports Complex.
Report said the suspect quickly left the tent when the victim's mother arrived.
The girl told her parents that her uncle raped her. A medico-legal test also confirmed the girl's claims.
For his part, the arrested suspect denied the allegations. He said he only touched the girl's back after the girl asked him to.
Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman said the suspect has been detained.
In a press conference Saturday, she said lighting has been improved at evacuation centers while patrols have been doubled following the incident.
More day care centers have also been put up at the complex.
Soliman also advised parents to not to let their children out of their sight to prevent similar incidents. -- Report from RJ Rosalado, ABS-CBN News Zamboanga; ANC
