MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Storm warning signal number 2 remains hoisted over eastern Samar due to tropical storm “Lawin” (international name: Jewalat).

Signal number 1, meanwhile, is up over Sorsogon, northern and western Samar, and Leyte.

In a press conference Saturday afternoon, PAGASA said the storm was last seen 405 kilometers east of Borongan, eastern Samar, carrying maximum sustained winds of 105 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph.

PAGASA said the storm has changed its path and may no longer make landfall.

However, PAGASA again warns residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under storm signals 1 and 2 against possible flashfloods and landslides.

Residents in coastal areas in eastern Samar are likewise alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by the storm.
