Fresh clashes erupt between gov't, BIFF
MANILA – Government troops and members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) again clashed in M'lang, North Cotabato Thursday morning.
602nd Infantry Brigade spokesman Capt. Antonio Bulao said two members of the BIFF were killed while six others were injured in the fighting, which occurred at around 5:30 a.m. in Barangay Tibao.
The BIFF rebels were part of the group behind the attacks in Midsayap on Monday, which resulted to the deaths of at least seven people, including two civilians.
One of the civilians, a farmer, was beheaded by the rebels.
6th Infantry Division commander Maj. Gen. Romeo Gapuz said Thursday’s incident was a result of the pursuit operation launched against the BIFF.
"Those are expected because we are on pursuit," said Hermoso. "They would withdraw when we engage them. As of now, it’s silent as we continue to pursue them in the marsh area.”
According to Hermoso, Gapuz instructed the troops to “conduct the pursuit operations because of the crime they committed...They committed a big crime so our pursuit is without let-up."
