4 Olongapo cops accused of extortion, robbery
MANILA, Philippines – Four Olongapo police officers have been accused of kidnapping, robbery and violation of domicile by the family of actor Jake Vargas.
According to the actor’s siblings, Joseph and Odessa, the cops entered their home in New Cabalan, Olongapo City on September 5 and accused them of using illegal drugs.
The actor’s siblings denied that they were using drugs, claiming they were working on their scale model business when they were arrested and brought to the Philippine National Police’s intelligence office at Camp Cabal.
At the headquarters, they alleged that the cops told them to pay P200,000 in exchange for their freedom.
Vargas produced the money and their father, Miguel, personally handed the cash to the police officers, two of whom were identified as PO1 Eleazar Jimenez and PO3 Alexander Quinet.
Eighteen days after the incident, the Vargas family filed the charges against the cops.
Olongapo Police, meanwhile, are preparing to file administrative charges against the suspects.
Two of the suspects have yet to be identified by Vargas’s siblings. -- Report from Dominic Almelor, ABS-CBN News
