12 dead in Marilao, Bulacan
MANILA – Tropical storm Ondoy (international codename Ketsana) has killed a dozen people and destroyed hundreds of homes in the town of Marilao, Bulacan province over the weekend.
Reports said 12 residents of Barangay Lambakin were killed when raging floodwaters hit their homes. Some of the fatalities reportedly failed to get out of their houses and drowned.
The storm also damaged many houses in Northville 4, 4-A and 4-B, displacing hundreds of people.
More than 2,000 families have been affected while 300 homes have been destroyed. Debris also filled the highways and streets.
The angry residents, meanwhile, complained that sacks of spoiled uncooked rice have been delivered to them. They said they do not know who delivered them as they appealed for real help.
The residents began to line up in the village hall to get supplies of relief goods. Some of them said they failed to get food because village officials purportedly refused to give them claim stubs.
Village officials, meanwhile, explained that they are prioritizing residents living near rivers and streams who were left homeless when floods engulfed their houses.
