Boy falls into water-filled pit, dies
BATANGAS - A 6-year-old boy was found dead on Monday after slipping and falling into a pit right outside his home in Rosario, Batangas.
The victim, Jason Barte, died after falling into a pit filled with waist-deep water.
Jason Barte’s mother, Yolanda, said she last saw her son on Sunday afternoon. She did not bother to look for him, thinking he was just out with her husband.
But when Monday morning came and there was still no sight of the victim, Yolanda decided to ask one of Jason’s playmates about his son’s possible whereabouts.
“Ang sabi ng bata ‘kahapon po ay inaaya niya akong maglaro sa balon,’” Yolanda said.
Little did she know the pit in their own backyard would be the cause of her son’s death.
She said they used the land for filling, therefore leaving a pit which was later filled with water.
Despite the water being waist-deep only, police did not easily notice the boy’s body because the water was not clear.
“Kinalawit ng kahoy tapos lumabas ang ulo matigas na siya,” Yolanda said.
Police investigation said Jason could have fallen into the pit on Sunday.
Last week, brothers Raniel Ramos, 7, and Reyreenz, 4, were also found dead after falling into a water-filled pit near their house in a compound in Sariaya, Quezon.
Authorities remind residents to always keep an eye on their children, and cover all pits and holes to prevent accidents.
