Van slams into parked truck in N. Cotabato; 2 dead
NORTH COTABATO – Two people were killed and six others were wounded when a passenger van hit a 10-wheeler truck parked along the side of the national highway in Barangay Manuangan, Pigkawayan, North Cotabato Saturday.
Insp. Hernane Osano, deputy police chief of Pigkawayan, said the van (MVG 767) came from Cotabato City and was going to Midsayap when it hit the truck at around 12:30 p.m.
The driver of the van lost control of the vehicle when its brakes malfunctioned.
One of the survivors, 18-year-old Guiafar Amir, said the brakes of the van made a loud noise as the driver tried to step on it.
“Nakita ko ‘yung driver na tinatapakan niya ang brake pero pumutok at hindi na gumagana kaya nabangga kami sa truck,” Guaifar said.
Two people, including the driver identified as Noramin Salik, died on the spot while all the remaining six passengers were brought to a community hospital in Midsayap.
The injured passengers were identified as Parida Duma, Yuri Duma and Guiafar Amir while the three other injured passengers have yet to be identified.
The authorities took almost an hour to remove the two fatalities inside the passenger van due to the extent of damage on the vehicle.
