Donations in Bacolod pour in for 'Ondoy' victims
BACOLOD CITY - Cash donations to victims of Tropical Storm Ondoy in Luzon through Bantay Bata 163 Negros has reached to more than P350,000 in just the second day since Sagip Kapamilya of ABS-CBN Bacolod launched the drive.
A truckload containing 40 bags of sugar meanwhile also arrived at ABS-CBN Bacolod Broadcast Complex Tuesday morning.
This was the donation of Victorias-Manapla-Cadiz Farmers Association and Victorias Agricultural District Multi-Purpose Cooperative.
28 sacks of used clothing were also donated and were already delivered to the city government of Bacolod.
The city government is gathering all donations except for cash and will then deliver these to the flood-stricken victims of Tropical Storm “Ondoy “.
The Philippine Inter-Island Shipowners Association, through its president Daniel "Bitay" Lacson, Jr., had earlier already announced that all shipments of relief goods to Manila will be transported free of charge.
Bing Ascalon, Bantay Bata 163 Negros consultant, is optimistic that more donations will come in.
She said that Negrenses have always been sympathetic and helpful in times of calamity.
Among the provinces in the country, Negros Occidental has reportedly been proven to have been a big donor of aid to victims of calamities. By Ragie Mae Tano-Arellano, ABS-CBN News Negros

It’s good to hear these
It’s good to hear these donations are reaching those in need, there have been some disasters when it has taken weeks for the victims to receive donated clothes and food. I attended a Donate Boat charity event recently and most of the money went towards aiding this part of the country.
