Relief aid to Tanay, Rizal running out
MANILA - Mayor Rafael Tanjuatco of Tanay, Rizal on Tuesday appealed anew for further aid assistance to his municipality as relief goods are starting to run out.
In an interview, Tanjuatco said at least 800 families are now staying in eight evacuation centers in the town. He said floods brought on by tropical storm Ondoy severely damaged the town proper and the public market.
"Our town of Tanay has been severely affected by this calamity. The whole town has been flooded and it has killed 32 people while 25 are still missing. We are really running out of supplies because there are so many families who need help. We just ask for your help and send aid," he said in an ANC interview.
Tanjuatco said the immediate need is food, blankets and medicine for families in the evacuation centers as well as those staying near the mountain barangays. He said Barangay Tandang Kutyo has been the worst-hit by the flood.
He also said power has yet to be restored in 60 percent of the municipality.
Tanjuatco said those who want to send aid assistance to Tanay may contact Ms. Vicky Flor at (02) 654-1002.
