'Other trapped Itogon miners still alive'
Voices of the eight remaining trapped miners can still be heard inside a collapsed mining tunnel in Itogon, Benguet, fueling hopes that they may also be rescued alive.
Senior Superintendent Danilo Pelisco, Benguet police chief, said the six rescued miners told them they heard their trapped companions' voices when found by rescuers at level 700 of the mining site's tunnel.
Pelisco said several rescuers also heard the trapped miners shouting from other parts of the tunnel.
"They could not give the exact location, [but] they heard the voices of their companions," the police official told ABS-CBN News Channel.
George Baywong, who supervises the rescue efforts, said the rescue teams will continue round-the-clock rescue until all the trapped miners are recovered.
"We've prepared for round-the-clock rescue activity. We won't sleep until we get everyone out," said Baywong. "We are taking advantage of the good weather."
Rescuers had been able to recover six of the 14 miners alive after over a week of being trapped in the tunnel.
Two miners -- Antonio Pagulayan and Jose Panio Jr. -- were rescued Monday afternoon. A third, Gerry Monyubda, was rescued before midnight Monday.
At 8:05 a.m. Tuesday, a fourth miner was rescued. Two more followed at 10:20 a.m. The three rescued Tuesday were Jayson Himmayod, Robert Buh-way and Gary Gano.
They were rescued from shaft 114 of the tunnel's deepest part, level 700.
Chief Superintendent Eugene Martin, Cordillera police director, said the rescued miners had to be subjected to debriefing as they were experiencing post traumatic stress syndrome.
The local government of Benguet gave P10,000each in financial assistance to Panio, Pagulayan and Munyobda.
Officials said more rescuers arrived Tuesday to join the search for the trapped miners. With reports from Reuters and Agence France-Presse
