The newest member of the Visayan spotted deer has been named after the late King of Pop, Micahel Jackson.

The 3-month old fawn is the 13th Visayan Spotted Deer bred in captivity by the Negros Forests and Ecological Foundation Inc. (NFEFI).

Paul Lizares, NFEFI president, named the new addition as MJ in honor of the King of Pop. The Visayan spotted deer was born July 9 when the hottest news item was still MJ who died June 25.

The Visayan Spotted Deer is endemic to Western Visayas and is an endangered specie.

Dr. Joanne Justo, curator for NFEFI said that it is only in Visayas, in particular Bacolod, Dumaguete and Iloilo, that breeding facilities exist for the Visayan Spotted Deer.  By Barbara Mijares, ABS-CBN Bacolod
