A town in Eastern Samar has been placed under a state of calamity due to increasing cases of dengue.

Bord Roderick Cerro, regional sentinel nurse of the Department of Health in Eastern Visayas, said 47 residents of Dolores town have been afflicted with dengue virus since September 10.

Cerro said the dengue outbreak has breached 12 barangays in Dolores, which the DOH found with a "high density of mosquitoes."

He said the DOH regional office has sent medical teams to the town to attend to the dengue victims.

He said a state of calamity has been declared in Dolores town, which would give way for the massive fogging operations in severely affected barangays.

He said a massive search and destroy campaign has been launched in possible breeding areas of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
