Ronald Singson seeks Congress seat anew
MANILA, Philippines – In a surprise move, former Ilocos Sur Representative Ronald Singson on Friday filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for the position he vacated after he was convicted in Hong Kong for drug trafficking.
Singson’s brother, Randolph, was set to run for the position, but family patriarch, Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson, decided last-minute that he wanted Ronald to run instead.
Ronald resigned from his post in 2011 after he was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months imprisonment by a Hong Kong judge.
He was replaced by younger brother, Ryan Luis, who is now running for governor to replace his father.
Governor Chavit said he will no longer seek a government position and will serve as campaign manager for his sons.
Several relatives of the Singsons are also seeking posts in the 2nd district of Ilocos Sur, Caoayan town, and Vigan. -- Report from Bryan Realgo, ABS-CBN News Northern Luzon
