Orange, yellow alerts up over Negros areas
MANILA -- The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised an orange rainfall advisory over Sipalay City in Negros Occidental as Typhoon "Ramil" entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Sunday.
In its 9:44 p.m. update, PAGASA said intense rain is expected over Sipalay City in the next three hours.
PAGASA also issued a yellow rainfall advisory over some other areas in Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.
The state weather bureau said moderate to heavy rainfall will affect Cauayan, Candoni, Ilog, Kabankalan City, and Hinoba-an in Negros Occidental, and also Bayawan City, Mabinay, Bindoy, Manjuyod, Ayungon, Bais City, Tanjay City, Pamplona, Amlan in Negros Oriental for two to three hours.
More than 4,000 residents were already affected by floods in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental as heavy rains continue to pour.
According to the the province's Office of Civil Defense, floods that affected 13 barangays in the city reached chest-deep.
A landslide was also reported in the city as a major river system overflowed due to heavy rain.
As of posting, residents affected by deep floods in Negros Oriental are staying in different evacuation centers.--Report from Henry Atuelan, DZMM
