Two soldiers were wounded in an encounter with suspected members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in Sarangani Tuesday afternoon.

Wounded during the encounter in Barangay Datu Dani in Kiamba town were Privates First Class Judy Galvez and Ebinecer Libres.

Galvez said a firefight broke out when they chanced upon a group of armed men while conducting routine patrol in the village.

Galvez said the rebels also suffered casualties during the encounter.

Government troops beefed up security in the area following Friday’s attack on a coconut plantation owned by Sarangani Vice Gov. Steve Solon in Barangay Kling in Kiamba.

A security guard and a worker were wounded in the five-minute firefight between the plantation’s security personnel and the alleged group of MILF rebels.

The armed men failed to enter the compound and burn the plantation.
