5 HS students in Iloilo face expulsion after frat hazing
17-year old “Sonny” allegedly yelled “quit” after he was hit the 7th time with a paddle in alleged “initiation rites” of Dos Kelion fraternity that he allegedly wanted to be a member of.
The hematoma showing on both of his thighs were however proof that he had wanted to become a member of a “brotherhood” which reportedly only accepts those who survive a “paddling” session.
"Sonny", reportedly along with 3 4th-year high school boys and a 3rd-year high school girl, were allegedly promised by their “masters” to become the pioneer members of a chapter they were putting up in their town.
The parents of the victims never knew that their children were being “initiated” by their masters They were shocked when they were informed by the guidance counselor of the school their children are in.
Now, they are worried since the private school, where their children study, shuns membership in any fraternity and a student found guilty would be expelled.
Elena, one of the parents, cried over the gravity of her son's mistake.
She and the rest of the parents asked for a special meeting with the school director to appeal the case of their children. She also expressed her anger against a certain Alejeo Barrera and John Conching. The two were allegedly the ones who recruited their children to join the fraternity.
Meanwhile, the women and children's protection desk of Dumarao police, consider the incident as a violation of the anti-hazing law and child abuse. By John Mark Guda, ABS-CBN Iloilo
