BFAR confirms ‘red tide’ in Murcielagos Bay

MURCIELAGOS BAY, Zamboanga del Norte- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Region 9 has confirmed on Thursday that it has found the presence of red tide toxins in Murcielagos Bay in Zamboanga del Norte.

It said that affected towns are those near the bay which are Baliangao and Sapang Dalaga in Misamis Occidental while in Zamboanga del Norte are Sibutad and Rizal towns.

BFAR warned residents in the areas not to eat or sell any shellfish.

The public, in addition, was told that fresh fish from Murcielagos Bay must be washed and cleaned thoroughly before cooking. Trini Velasco, ABS-CBN News Caraga with a report from Weng Espiritu, ABS-CBN Dipolog
