'Nina' now a typhoon

MANILA, Philippines – Tropical cyclone "Nina" is now classified as a typhoon as it got stronger while still over the East Philippine Sea, the state weather bureau said on Tuesday morning.

In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said Nina was already packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

The typhoon was located 1,050 kms east of Cagayan as of 4 a.m. It was moving west at 15 kph.

PAGASA said due to the typhoon, Visayas, Bicol and Davao regions will have occasional light to moderate rains or thunderstorms.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, on the other hand, will have partly cloudy skies with brief rains or thunderstorms.
