MANILA - Residents in some towns in Pampanga province have been evacuated since Thursday due to rising floods brought about by incessant rain.

ABS-CBN’s Gracie Rutao reported that 13 barangays in the town of Candaba are still flooded.

In her report to ANC’s Dateline Philippines, Rutao said that some of the affected residents have been evacuated in rescue operations by the Candaba Police Thursday.

Early reports stated that rescuers could not enter the chest-deep floodwaters in Barangay San Agustin, in Candaba. The evacuees are currently staying at the Pampanga Agricultural College in the town.

Candaba police and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) are monitoring the rise of water levels in the town.

The town also has speedboats and lifesaving equipment ready, as well as preemptive evacuation plans in case water levels rise further.

On Thursday, the Pantabangan Dam released 500 cubic meters per second of water due to the continuous rain.

In Arayat, Rutao said some 300 families affected by the landslide last September opted to stay at the Arayat National Park.

In Masantol, a baby girl was found dead Friday morning. The baby’s floating body was recovered near their house.

Meanwhile, some passengers going north of Luzon have been stranded at the bus terminal since last night. Some were forced to spend the night at the terminal.

GMA TO VISIT PAMPANGA

This is another opportunity for Mrs. Arroyo to show her ka-pampango feel how concern she is about them, to emote her sincere feelings about their tragic experience and to share her blessings to them courtesy of taxpayers money and jueteng monies.
