Floods swamp Nueve Ecija
At least 100 villages in 22 municipalities and cities in Nueva Ecija remained flooded as tropical depression Pepeng (international codename Parma) continued to bring heavy rains over the northern provinces of Luzon.
The provincial disaster coordinating council (PDCC) said the flooded areas were Gabaldon, Cuyapo, Guimba, Karanglan, General Natividad, San Leonardo, Rizal, Bongabon, Lupao, Licab, Sto. Domingo, Llanera, San Jose City, Pantabangan, San Isidro, Talavera, Zaragoza, Quezon, Allaga, Cabiao, Gapan City, Laur and Cabanatuan.
The province has more than 849 villages in 32 municipalities and cities.
The Nueva Ecija PDCC said floods continued to rise in the affected towns, with at least 100 villages, due to heavy rains and the Pantabangan Dam's continued release of water.
Provincial governor Aurelio Matias Umali has suspended classes at all levels in the province due to the massive flooding.
Umali said the suspension will be lifted as soon as the floods recede.
ABS-CBN's Ryan Chua reported that police have dispatched rescue teams composed of Special Action Force members.
Weather bureau PAGASA has lifted the storm warning signal over the province as the storm continued its movement out of the Philippine area of responsibility.
PAGASA said that as of 11 a.m., Pepeng has already moved over Luzon sea or 90 kilometers northwest of Baguio City, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour.
It has accelerated as it continued its movement towards the South China Sea, the weather bureau said.
Only 5 provinces remained under Signal No. 1, including Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, La Union and western Pangasinan. With a report from Ryan Chua, ABS-CBN News

ARROYO FOR UMALI
Gloria Arroyo new local ally Gov. Aurelio Umali of Lakas-CMD is doing well in the province of Nueva Ecija against former Gov. Tommy Joson, a Kampi partymate of Mrs. Arroyo. But this does not mean that Umali is free from her venomous "kiss of death".
