Signal no. 1 up in 6 areas due to 'Santi'
MANILA – Public storm warning signal number 1 was raised over 6 areas in Luzon as tropical storm "Santi" inched closer to the country, the Philippine, Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
PAGASA said Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon and Camarines Norte should experience 30kph-60kph winds in at least 36 hours due to the storm.
The weather bureau said residents in low-lying and mountainous areas, especially in the provinces under signal no. 1, should be on alert for possible flash floods and landslides.
As of 10 a.m. today, Santi was spotted 350 kilometers northeast of Virac, Catanduanes.
Santi further gained strength, now packing maximum sustained winds of 95 kph near the center and gusts of up to 120 kph.
The storm is forecast to move west northwest at 11 kph. If it maintains this speed and direction, Santi will be 340 kms east of Baler, Aurora by Friday morning.
An estimated rainfall of 5 to 20 millimeters per hour (moderate to intense) is expected within the storm's 400-km diameter.
PAGASA said sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Eastern Visayas.
