Signal no. 1 up in 7 Luzon areas due to 'Santi'
MANILA (UPDATE) – Seven areas in Luzon are under storm signal number 1 as severe tropical storm “Santi” continued to move towards Aurora and Isabela.
PAGASA said the following areas should expect 30 to 60 kilometer per hour (kph) winds in the next 36 hours:
• Camarines Sur
• Polilio Islands
• Camarines Norte
As of 4 p.m., the storm was last seen 490 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora. It was carrying winds of 95 kph and gustiness of up to 120 kph.
The storm was expected to move west at 15 kph and may make landfall in Aurora by early morning of Saturday.
It will then cross Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Tarlac and Zambales.
Rains and thunderstorms are expected over Luzon and Visayas Thursday night and Friday.
The storm is expected to dump an estimated rainfall of between 5 to 20 mm per hour (moderate - intense) within its 400 km diameter.
Northern and Central Luzon may experience stormy weather late Friday.
Residents of areas under signal number 1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.
PAGASA also said sea travel is risky over the eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon and of Visayas.
The storm will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Sunday morning, but PAGASA said another tropical cyclone may enter PAR on Sunday.
PAGASA also said it is monitoring water levels at Magat, Ipo and La Mesa dams. Both Magat and Ipo dams may release water if strong rains occur on Friday.
