Report: Kennon Road now passable to light vehicles
MANILA – One of the major routes to Baguio City has been reopened to light vehicles.
The regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) told ABS-CBN News that Kennon Road, which was rendered impassable due to landslides, was finally cleared as of 2 p.m.
Only one lane of Kennon Road was reopened on Sunday.
Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. told ANC’s “Dateline Philippines” that the government is working to clear the blocked roads that are hampering the distribution of relief goods to the affected areas in the city and province of Benguet.
Communication lines and power supply are “all okay,” Bautista assured.
Lt. Col. Romeo Brawner Jr., spokesman of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, also said that the military are heavily involved in the clearing operations.
He also said that as of Sunday morning the military is now focusing on “disaster relief operations” from rescue operations.
He added that the AFP is joining forces with the US military in the distribution of goods and medical and dental missions in Pangasinan, Baguio and CAR.
Meanwhile, the DPWH issued a traffic advisory for those who wish to take the Manila-Baguio route, according to Undersecretary Romeo Momo.
Because of the closure of Bued Bridge in Sison, Pangasinan along the Manila North Road, motorists coming from Manila going to Baguio City and Ilocos provinces were advised to take Urdaneta-Manaoag-San Jacinto-San Fabian-Damortis Road and vice-versa.
They may also take the route of Binalonan-Laoac-Manaoag-San Jacinto-San Fabian-Damortis road and vice versa.
Marcos Highway going to Baguio, meantime, is projected to be reopened Tuesday. With a report from Dhobie de Guzman, ABS-CBN Baguio
