All set for Calungsod image's Vatican trip
CEBU, Philippines - All is set for the trip of the official image of Blessed Pedro Calungsod to Vatican City as his canonization nears.
The image of Calungsod will leave Cebu on October 16. A large celebration for the image trip is being prepared.
The journey will start with a dawn procession from the Blessed Pedro Calungsod Shrine to Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, where a mass will be held.
A motorcade from the Cathedral to the Mactan Cebu International Airport will also be held.
The trip marks the end of "Duaw Lungsod" or the image's visit to each town.
Fr. Charles Jayme, the custodian of the official image, will fly with it on board Cathay Pacific.
The image will fly as one of the passengers not as cargo.
The official image of Calungsod will be used in triduum in Vatican and in the canonization rites.
Around 5,000 pilgrims from the Philippines will present during the event.
Calungsod's image will be brought back to the Philippines on October 25.
The image will then travel to more than 30 places around the country.
On November 30, a fluvial procession and a thanksgiving mass will be held at the South Road Properties in Cebu.
