MANILA - The flood has subsided in Rosales town in Pangasinan province but streets and houses have been left with a thick layer of mud, vehicles are piled on top of one another and trees and electric posts were found to have been toppled.

Some families living near the dikes said they were unable to save any of their belongings.

“Sumadaan iyong mga rescue teams, kumakaway kami mula sa bubong. Ssinisigaw ko na gutom na gutom na kami, na uhaw na uhaw na kami...pero walang nakarinig,” Carlita Lagrimas, a

Another resident said they lost everything to the floods.

“Para kaming ipinanganak ulit. walang-wala,” said Daisy Casilang.

Teddy and Jinky Sagun meanwhile were rescued at the height of typhoon “Pepeng”. They sought shelter at SM Rosales Mall where the 7-month pregnant Jinky nearly died, after giving birth prematurely.

Jinky and Teddy Sagun tell their ordeal

“Hinang-hina na ako noon... pero iyong asawa ko, hindi ako iniwan, bumubulong sa akin na magpakatatag. sabi ko, ayoko pa mamatay,” narrated Jinky.

“Napanghinaan ako ng loob pero di ko puwede ipakita. Sabi ko sa kaniya, huwag niya kami iiwan ng mga anak niya,” her husband Teddy said.

The couple, who are also residents of Rosales, survived but their precious little baby did not make it.

In Mangaldan town, mountains of garbage fill the town center.

As residents line up at a water refilling station, some paid fees to have their cellphones charged, since power has yet to be restored in many areas.

Many residents meanwhile have begun to clean up their houses that were submerged by floods and which left mud inside.

At least 29 people died in Pangasinan due to “Pepeng”. Damage to agriculture, fisheries and livestock is estimated at P1.7 billion and more than P200 million for infrastructure.

Pangasinan officials said they are mulling charges against those responsible.

“Were planning to sue kung sino ang may kasalanan,” said Pangasinan Gov. Amado Espino Jr.

Landslides in La Union

38 people meanwhile died in neighboring La Union province, most of them buried in landslides.

In the town of Caba, thousands of homes were also flooded, along with bridges and ricefields.

“Napakasakit, di ko alam paano babangon,” said Tito Picar

“Masakit. umiyak na lang ako pero okay lang dahil nakapagligtas ako ng mga buhay,” said Federly Rabanal, another resident of Caba.

Authorities said the province suffered more than P200 million in damage to infrastructure and more than P640 million in agriculture. ABS-CBN News Channel
