Barangay councilor shot dead in North Cotabato
COTABATO CITY – Gunmen shot and killed a barangay councilor in Kabacan, North Cotabato on Thursday evening.
The fatality was identified as Ronnie Casimina, a barangay councilor of Bangilan, Kabacan.
Police said Casimina was standing beside a convenience store when still unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen suddenly shot him past 7 p.m. on Thursday.
The victim was immediately brought to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
He sustained several gunshot wounds on different parts of his body.
A student of the University of Southern Mindanao, meanwhile, was wounded after being hit by a stray bullet from a .45-caliber pistol used by the suspects.
The victim was identified as Marvin Placio.
Police are still gathering evidence and testimonies regarding the incident. They have yet to determine the motive behind the killing.
Meanwhile, a municipal councilor of Banisilan, North Cotabato was also wounded in an ambush attempt in Sitio Quary, Barangay Salama on Wednesday morning.
Victim Abel Abas was on his way home on board his commando jeepney with plate number MFE 627, along with his civilian escort Jeffrey Makali, when about five armed men fired shots at him using M14 and M16 rifles.
Police suspect politics as the motive behind the shooting.
