Flood waters subside in Bulacan; roads now passable
MANILA – The province of Bulacan is still carrying out rescue operations in the towns of San Miguel and San Ildefonso, two municipalities badly affected by typhoon "Santi."
"Lahat ng aming members ng Army and PNP nandyan na po lahat sa rescue operations at inaasahan po namin within this afternoon matatapos ang aming rescue operations at ang tubig will totally subside, then we will go to the level of relief operations," said Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino Alvarado.
Alvarado explained that San Miguel is located north of Bulacan adjacent to the province of Nueva Ecija.
"Kaya ito po ang tinamaan ng malakas na hangin at maraming tubig kagabi at nag-cause ito ng flash flooding na ngayon po naman natutuwa kami na masyadong mabilis ang pag-recede ng tubig," he said.
The Maharlika Highway from Bulacan to Nueva Ecija is now passable, according to the governor. However, electricity and water are still out in several areas in San Miguel.

Alvarado said three people died during the height of the typhoon on Friday night. The victims include a 70-year-old who suffered a heart attack after the roof of their house was blown away by strong winds and two minors who drowned.
He added that Santi destroyed more than 10,000 hectares of rice lands in Bustos, Plaridel, Baliuag, Pandi and Pulilan.

"Ito po ay about to be harvested. Ito po ay totally damaged at yung pong ating gulayan sa San Ildefonso at San Miguel na nagsu-supply ng almost 60 percent ng mga gulay sa Metro Manila public markets, ito po na-damage," he said.
He however could not give yet an estimate amount of the damage the typhoon caused on their crops and infrastructures.
"Wala pang halos eksaktong estimate dito, inisyal report pa lamang," he said.
