'Santi' leaves P23M damage in Aurora
MANILA – Typhoon Santi left damages in agriculture and infrastructure worth an estimated P23 million in Aurora, authorities said.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said worst hit by the typhoon are the towns of Maria Aurora, Dingalan and Baler.
A total of 664 homes were damaged, 153 of which were totally destroyed after being hit by storm surges and strong winds.
More than 1,200 families or 5,000 residents were affected by the typhoon.
The whole province of Aurora is still without power.
But authorities said major thoroughfares have been cleared except for the Bongabong-Baler Road.
No casualties were reported in the province.
The PDRRMO also said it sees no need to declare a state of calamity because the damage left by Santi was less compared to the devastation left by Typhoon Labuyo in August.
Santi made landfall in Aurora Friday night and is expected to be out of the Philippine Area of Responsiblity by Sunday. -- Report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
