1 dead, 3 hurt in Iloilo blast

MANILA, Philippines – An unidentified man being chased by police officers in Jaro, Iloilo City was killed after a grenade he was carrying exploded early Saturday.

Police said the fatality tried to evade a checkpoint, prompting them to give chase.

They cornered the suspect after he entered a boarding house and locked himself inside a bathroom.

Police said an explosion then occurred inside the bathroom, resulting to the injuries of 3 cops, identified as PO1 Christian Valerie Lava, PO3 Fidel Mosquito and PO1 Jade Jorilla.

The suspect, meanwhile, was found dead inside the bathroom.

Recovered from his body was a firearm and cash amounting to nearly P30,000.

Police have yet to determine if the suspect dropped the grenade on purpose or accidentally as he tried to escape.
