Salvors have recovered more than 78,000 liters of bunker fuel from the capsized M/V Princess of the Stars off Sibayan Island in Romblon province, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported Tuesday.

PCG commandant Vice Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo said a total of 78,294 liters or 129 metric tons of hydrocarbons have been recovered by salvors Titan and Harbor Star from the capsized ferry.

Tamayo said the recovery of 200,000 liters of bunker fuel from the ferry may be concluded in three to four days.

The foreign salvors started suctioning the bunker fuel from the capsized ferry after all toxic chemicals were recovered over the weekend.

The government's Task Force Princess of the Stars prioritized the recovery of 402 barrels of endosulfan shipment from the ferry. After clearing the ship of endosulfan, the salvors scooped out other "hazardous chemicals" owned by Bayer.

Among the Bayer products recovered from the ship were 30 bags of Tamaron (600L Metemidophos), 30 bags Fuerza (GR3 Carbofuran), 15 packages of Trap (70 Niclosamide), and 382 kilos of Antracol (WP Propineb).

Undersecretary Elena Bautista, head of the task force, had said that the salvors will resume the recovery of the remains of passengers trapped inside the doomed ferry right after clearing the bunker fuel.

At least 800 passengers drowned when the ferry capsized at the height of a strong typhoon last June 21.
