Tourism is down in Baguio City, which has yet to recover from the devastation of tropical storm Pepeng (Parma) , a local business group said Wednesday.

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Baguio chapter said hotels in the "zero booking" despite offering 50 percent cuts on fees.

ABS-CBN News correspondent Ron Gagalac reported that the main tourist spots within the city -- Burnham Park , Wright Park, Lourdess Grotto, MInes View and Camp John Hay -- were also almost deserted.

Mayor Rey Bautista, meanwhile, was optimistic that the city's tourism would be able to recover as soon as debris from landslides and flashfloods caused by the storm were cleared.

Bautista said food and petroleum supply has started to normalize with the three access roads -- Kennon and Naguilian roads and Marcos Highway -- partially opened to cargo trucks and tankers carrying gasoline and goods.

The PCCI said the prices of vegetables delivered into the city have gone down by 40 to 50 percent and gasoline refilling stations have stopped limiting their sales.

The city website (www.baguio.gov.ph) said Baguio City was struck by 58 landslides during Pepeng's onslaught early this week.

A total of 57 people have been confirmed killed and 5 remained missing. With a report from Ron Gagalac, ABS-CBN News
