'Nina' still inside PAR, may leave Wednesday
MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon "Nina" remains inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and is expected to leave between Wednesday evening and Thursday dawn, PAGASA forecaster Fernando Cada said.
In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said Nina was still moving slowly in a northwest direction, but has maintained its strength.
PAGASA said Nina was still packing maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.
Nina was located 880 kms northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, as of 10 a.m.
Cada said since it entered PAR last week, Nina never had any direct effect on the country.
He explained that there are less rains now due to the weakening of the southwest monsoon (habagat).
"Ang habagat natin ay pawala na, nasa transition tayo. Kaya mapapansin niyo na tuwing umaga ay malamig ang temperaturang nararamdaman, lalo na sa northern Luzon kung saan nagdo-dominate ang amihan (northeast monsoon)," he told radio dzMM.
Nina is expected to be 790 kms northeast of Itbayat, Batanes by Tuesday morning.
Estimated rainfall is from 10 - 20 mm per hour (heavy - intense) within the typhoon's 600-km diameter.
Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the northern and western seaboard of northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Luzon due to big waves.
