MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED/CORRECTED) – An honest taxi driver returned a backpack containing a laptop and different currencies amounting to about P46,000 from his foreign passenger in Davao City.

Eddie Torres, 37, driver of the Mae Joy Taxi went to ABS-CBN Station on Wednesday to turn over a black backpack which his foreign passenger, Harun Akyol, forgot to retrieve from his cab.

The foreigner was identified based on the identification cards found inside his backpack.

Aside from the IDs, Akyol’s bag also contained an Apple Macbook Pro laptop, some personal items, cash, and different currencies amounting to about P46,000.

According to Torres, Akyol boarded his cab from the airport and asked to be taken to the Apo View Hotel on Tuesday night.

He decided to turnover the bag to ABS-CBN as it was not right to take interest in something which was not his, he said.

The foreigner retrieved his bag past 5 p.m. Wednesday. He was also all praises for the honest taxi driver.

“I am very thankful for this. I never expected I would have my belongings back to me,” he said. Report from Rodirey Salas, ABS-CBN News
