Rescuers save 61 people in Bohol mountain
MANILA – A rescue team from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday rescued some 61 residents in Loon, Bohol who got trapped in a mountain when a 7.2 magnitude quake struck the Visayas last Tuesday.
MMDA rescue team leader Aldo Mayor said the residents who live on the other side of the mountain in Barangay Tan-awan were isolated from the rest of the town after the quake triggered landslides and ruptured access roads.
"Doon sila nakatira sa gilid ng bundok. Iyung kalsada na papunta roon, hindi na madaanan kasi pag umapak ka mahuhulog ka sa bangin eh," Mayor told ANC.
Mayor said two more injured residents were being carried down the mountain through a hammock, as of posting time.
The rescued Loon residents include 10 elderly residents, 3 infants and 21 children.
Mayor said the injured residents will be brought to a nearby barangay where they can receive medical attention. – with a report from Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
