Dauis churchgoers to hear mass at Terraza de Mariveles
MANILA – Parishioners of the Our Lady of Assumption Shrine in Dauis, Bohol can attend the Sunday Mass at the Terraza de Mariveles.
The temporary venue was announced after the historic church suffered massive damages following the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that hit the province last Tuesday morning.
The information was announced by Osmundo Adaptar, the church's sakristan mayor.
"Ang misa namin bukas ay alas-6:30 ng umaga, alas-8:30 ng umaga sa second mass, at yung third mass, alas-5:30 ng hapon," Adaptar said.
Adaptar, a survivor himself, was inside the church when the ground shook on Tuesday morning.
"Mayroon kaming misa sa patay. Ngayon, hinahanda ko yung gamit sa pari para magmisa kami. Nagkataon na yung dumadagundong akala ko eroplano, yung pala lindol," he said.
The walls and roof started to cave in on them, making any attempt to exit the church potentially dangerous.
"Wala na akong choice na makalabas kasi biglaan, naghuhulugan na yung mga bato so what I did, nagtago na lang ako sa lumang pulpito, pulpit, hanggang sa huminto ang lindol," he said.
All he could do was offer a prayer while waiting for the tremor to stop.
"Talagang kaba. Sabi ko na lang sa sarili ko 'Lord, ikaw na ang bahala sa akin'," he said.
All of eight of them luckily survived, he said.
"Salamat at binigyan mo ako ng panibagong buhay na naman," Adaptar said. Report from Jon Ibanez, DZMM
