Over 200 evacuees food poisoned
More than 200 people in an evacuation center in San Pedro town were rushed to different hospitals due to food poisoning after consuming relief meals Monday evening, a health official said.
Dr. Jaime Baron, San Pedro Municipal Health Officer said 212 people, including children and elderly, were rushed to Amante Hospital in San Pedro, San Lazaro Hospital in Manila, JP Rizal Hospital in Calamba City and Ospital ng Muntinlupa around 9:00 pm.
Baron said the victims experienced vomiting, stomach pains, dizziness and loose bowel movement after consuming chicken adobo with eggs served at the evacuation center in Sioland Building in Barangay Poblacion from a religious organization.
“We immediately gave them re-hydrating solutions and anti-biotic to prevent further complications of their illness,” Baron said.
Baron said they were only able to accommodate 40 patients in their hospital. The rest were asked to go to nearby hospitals because of limited facilities.
“I already collected samples of the food they ate for laboratory testing at Bureau of Food and Drugs,” Baron said.
As of posting, almost half of the patients were already sent home after receiving medications from the different hospitals.
