Storm 'Ofel' heads towards West PH Sea
MANILA, Philippines – Parts of Luzon and Visayas should expect a gradual improvement of weather by Friday as tropical storm "Ofel" heads towards the West Philippine Sea, the state weather bureau said.
PAGASA said Ofel has already crossed the southern part of Mindoro and is now moving towards the West Philippine Sea. As of 10 a.m., Ofel was located 40 kilometers west of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro.
Storm warning signal number 2 remains hoisted over the following areas:
- Lubang Island
- Occidental Mindoro
- Oriental Mindoro
On the other hand, the following areas are under storm warning signal no. 1:
- Metro Manila
- Southern Quezon
- Burias Island
- Calamian Group of Islands
The storm was moving west-northwest at 22 kph.
It gained strength, now packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center with gustiness of up to 90 kph.
PAGASA said with this speed and direction, the storm is expected to be 510 kms west of Metro Manila on Friday morning.
Estimated rainfall is from 5 to 25 millimeters per hour (moderate - intense) within the 450-km diameter of the storm.
Fishing boats and other small sea crafts are advised not to venture out into the seaboards of Luzon due to rough sea conditions.
