Visayas quake death toll now at 213
MANILA -- The death toll from the massive quake that struck Bohol and nearby provinces in Visayas last October 15 rose to 213 on Saturday, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
As of 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, the NDRRMC said the number of people confirmed killed in Bohol, the province where the epicenter of the magnitude 7.2 quake was located, is now at 199.
The two latest fatalities were from the towns of Loon and Sagbayan.
At least 13 died in neighboring Cebu and 1 in Siquijor.
The NDRRMC said at least 742 people were injured in the quake.
Meanwhile, eight remain missing in the province of Bohol: 5 from Sagbayan, and 1 each from Clarin, Inabanga and Antequera.
At least 360,018 individuals are still staying in evacuation centers, the NDRRMC said. -- Report from Johnson Manabat, dzMM
