MANILA - Another potential powerful typhoon is heading towards northern and central Luzon area, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Wednesday.

Nathaniel Cruz, PAGASA's weather bureau chief, said the storm with an international name Mirinae may enter the Philippine area of responsibility by late Wednesday night or early morning Thursday.

PAGASA's website said the storm was still over the Pacific Ocean, 1,640 kilometers east of northern Luzon packed with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 100 kph. It was moving west northwest at 28 kph.

"We expect the storm to enter the Philippine area of responsibility late tonight or tomorrow morning, if there will be no change in its present course," Cruz told ANC television.

He said the storm, which has the makings of a strong typhoon, as strong as tropical cyclones Ramil and Pepeng, may make landfall in the Aurora-Isabela area.

Cruz said the two provinces and other areas in northern and central Luzon may feel the effects of Marinae in two days.

Mirinae, which will be named Santi as soon as it enters Philippine territory, is the 4th tropical cyclone to enter the country since tropical storm Ondoy.

Ondoy brought a months-worth of rain, flooding a large part of Metro Manila.

The government's disaster response agency has counted at least 900 people killed by storms Ondoy and Ramil. Billions worth of property and agriculture products were also damaged by the storms.

ancient wisdom that arroyo must listen

China is one of the oldest civilizations on earth. Along with this civilization is its rich culture and tradition. Some of the oldest philosophical and religious traditions of mankind are to be found in China. It's worth-mentioning Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism (originally from India but traveled into China and assumed a new form). Their common goal is always to seek wisdom -- for the betterment of mankind.

According to Chinese wisdom, heaven and earth are one. So that, the good works of humanity pleases heaven. As a reward, the heaven brings goodness to humankind -- peace, prosperity and abundance. The heaven only longs for the goodness of humanity. Nothing else! But if humanity does something that displeases heaven like immoralities and corruption in governance, there will be strife, catastrophes, plagues -- all these are tangible signs that heaven is displeased or angry. In order to please heaven, humankind has to make sacrifices and immoral and corrupt government leaders have to relinquish their post. Otherwise, the heaven's wrath becomes unstoppable.

This maybe true in China. And this was the practice for centuries, if not millennia.

In my own reflection, these catastrophes (typhoons), strife (war and insurgency) and plague (leptospirosis) that haunt our country nowadays -- particularly in Luzon -- are a sign from heaven that it is not pleased with the way Arroyo is running the country. The heaven is demanding -- through visible signs -- that Arroyo should relinquish her post. She is not anymore worthy to govern humankind. The heaven is not pleased with her no more! She already lost her moral ascendancy. The more she clings onto power, the heaven's wrath will continue to plague the Philippines, particularly in Luzon area.

It's now time for Arroyo to make "sacrifices" -- for the sake of humankind, the Filipino people!

Arroyo should listen to ancient wisdom, not her own wish-damn or wish-dumb!
