MANILA, Philippines – The mayor of Lupi, Camarines Sur died early Sunday morning after sustaining critical injuries in a shooting incident in Naga City Saturday afternoon.

Mayor Leo Raul Matamorosa died around 1:20 a.m at the Mother Seton Hospital. He was 45.

Naga City Police Director Col. Antonio Gardiola confirmed the news.

Matamorosa sustained gunshot wounds in the head and slipped into a coma last night.

He was shot by an unidentified gunman at the Diversion Road in Brgy. Tabuco, Naga City around 3:45 p.m. Saturday while having his television fixed at a service center.

Witnesses said the gunman was accompanied by two other unidentified suspects who served as lookouts.

Police have yet to determine a motive behind the attack. The Naga police have created Task Force Matamorosa to focus on the case. Report from DZMM
