Two vintage bombs were found in a hill at Sitio Lantawon in Barangay Guimbalaon of Silay City last Monday and were turned over to Silay City police by Barangay Chairman Allan Duca.

The 81mm M301 series mortar round, considered to be highly explosive, and the 60mm M49 series mortar round are considered to be vintage bombs as they were used by American and Japanese soldiers during World War II.

"Barangay officials found them buried under the ground as they were conducting an extensive bio monitoring as required in the Presidential Degree 705," said Police Officer 3 Romulo Tolentino.

Tolentino advised the public to immediately turn over to authorities bombs that may be found in their respective places since these bombs are still active and could possibly explode even though they are already old.

The police said they are collecting all vintage bombs turned over to them by residents of the city so that they could detonate them all in one place in the near future.
