DOT: Banaue wakeskating done on private land
MANILA -- After a video showing foreigners wakeskating at the Banaue rice terraces drew flak online, the regional director of the Department of Tourism (DOT) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) clarified that the venue used was outside the world heritage site.
In a phone interview on DZMM's "Pasada Sais Trenta," DOT Director Purificacion Molintas clarified that they wouldn't let such an activity be done at the world heritage site.
"Iyung venue po na ginamit sa video was outside the world heritage site. In fact, it was part of a private property," she explained.
Molintas said she met with Banaue Mayor Jerry Dalipog regarding the controversial video.
The wakeskating video was a promotional video for Red Bull and was shot around six months ago.
Molintas also explained that the local government of Banaue gave permission for the shoot to take place in the area.
"Nakita ko po ang video, maganda po ang pagkakagawa," Molintas said.
"Nag-uusap po kami ni Mayor Dalipog, tinatanong po niya kung mali daw ba na i-promote niya ang probinsiya niya," she added.
Molintas believes that the video is a good way to promote the country, especially the province of Banaue.
She said that there was nothing wrong with the video, and assured that there was no damage done to the Banaue rice terraces.
