BATANGAS - Rescue operations are still ongoing after a car fell off a bridge in Batangas City Saturday morning.

According to residents, a white Honda Civic was crossing the Bridge of Promise in Baranggay Gulod Labac when it suddenly collapsed due to floods brought about by typhoon Santi (international codename Mirinae).

Batangas Police Director Senior Superintendent Jesus Gatchalian identified the victims as Malou soriano, her husband Romulo Soriano, and their three-year-old son, Nicolo.

Malou was rescued past 8 a.m. by residents of Barangay Malitam after she was seen hanging on to a tree. She is now recovering at St. Patrick’s Hospital.

Rescuers have yet to locate the father and the son. Local officials have deployed bancas to search the area of Calumpang River together with the Batangas Coast Guard. However they are now putting rescue operations on hold due to the strong current.

Batangas Coast Guard Commander, Lt. Troy Cornelio said the search and rescue team will resume operations on Sunday morning.
