Bomb scare delays Butuan flights

MANILA, Philippines – Two Cebu Pacific flights from Butuan were delayed on Thursday after its control tower received a bomb threat.

Cebu Pacific Flight 5J 224 headed for Cebu was ready for take off when it was stopped by Aviation Security Group after the control tower chief, Engr. Merly Pulo, received a text message saying that the plane's cargo contains an explosive.

“The management of the airport tapos in coordination with the Aviation Security Group, they decided na i-check lahat ng baggage,” said Supt. Martin Gamba.

The Explosive Ordinance Division of the Army and Philippine National Police conducted a thorough search of the passengers’ luggage, but no bomb was found.

Another flight, 5J 788 headed for Manila, was also inspected.

The plane’s 79 passengers were directed to alight the plane and undergo inspection.

Both flights were delayed for an hour before airport authorities gave the go signal for it to depart.
