A two-hour fire razed more than 4,000 shanties in Barangay Poblacion, Kalibo, Aklan on Saturday, leaving some 2,000 people homeless.

Fire Inspector Patricio Collado said the fire started on C. Laserna Street around 2 p.m. and quickly spread in the squatters' colony.

Authorities said a total of 255 families or 1,204 individuals are currently staying at Augusto D. Legaspi sports complex as of Monday, November 2.

Officials said some of the families have left the evacuation center to stay at the riverside at C. Laserna. They said evacuees urgently need food, blankets, used clothes and materials for rebuilding their houses.
