Robbery at Shell Select store along NLEX foiled

A group of armed robbers attacked an armored van Monday afternoon while it was collecting cash from Shell Select convenience stores along North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Balagtas, Bulacan.
The robbery attempt, however, was foiled by the van’s security escorts who shot it out with the attackers.
The Bulacan police said the attack took place at around 3 p.m. when the suspects swooped down on the armored van, which was parked at the Shell gas station. Investigators said the group was composed of seven to ten armed men.
The attackers, however, fled after the armored van’s security men engaged them in a shootout. The robbers left a couple of M-203 grenades at the crime scene.
Police said they received information about planned attacks on gasoline stations especially after the establishments along the expressway earned big from the weekend and All Saints Day sales.
“Tingin namin, ito rin ang tumitira sa Maynila,” said Senior Superintendent Allen Bantolo, Bulacan Provincial Director.
Investigators added that the robbers may have studied the establishments’ collection schedule before launching the attack.
“Malamang alam na nila ang weekend collection,” said Rudhen Mendoza of the National Bureau of Investigation Bulacan.
