Brods behind UST grad's slay formally charged
MANILA, Philippines – The two brothers behind the murder of a University of Santo Tomas (UST) alumna have been formally charged on Monday.
Rolin and Roel Gacita were charged with robbery with homicide and attempted rape before the Cavite Provincial Prosecutors Office, according to Bacoor Police chief Superintendent Romano Cardiño.
During the filing of the charges, a commotion occurred as the parents of victim Cyrish Magalang saw the two suspects.
The older of the Gacita brothers, Rolin, earlier admitted to killing Magalang last October 30.
However, Rolin, who admitted that he was under the influence of illegal drugs at the time of the killing, insisted that his brother was innocent and was not aware of his plan.
Nevertheless, he admitted that his brother also took some illegal drugs at that time.
Magalang's body, which bore 49 stab wounds from a screwdriver, was discovered the following day in Gawaran Heights, Barangay Molino 7.
Cardiño already considers the crime a closed case. – with a report from Henry Atuelan, dzMM
