US polls may affect peace talks - MILF
MANILA, Philippines – An official of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) believes that the results of the US elections will have an effect on the peace negotiations between the MILF and the government of the Philippines.
MILF's vice-chairman, Ghazali Jaafar, told ABS-CBN News that whoever will win the polls should be knowledgeable on the Bangsamoro issue and support the peace process.
Jaafar said the current US government is supportive on the peace process.
"I am not campaigning for any candidate but whoever wins, it counts," Jaafar said.
Although the US is not a big player in the negotiations between the MILF and the government, the MILF gives value and is grateful to the US for showing its support.
MILF is also hopeful the support will be maintained and even strengthened after the elections.
